About:
Limited To 268 Bottles
A stunning bottle of Caol Ila, distilled all the way back in January 1984. After 35 long years, the single malt was bottled in March 2019 from a single refill hogshead, for Douglas Laing's XOP Old Particular range. The whisky saw an outturn of only 268 bottles at 48.6% ABV.
This is a maritime dram in which Caol Ila's typically-fierce peatiness has burned down to embers; the spirit is redolent with coal dust and ashy smoke, run through with a sharp and distinct menthol note.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: The nose opens with a littoral, beachy, maritime, fresh character.
Palate: The palate opens rather subtly, distinctly sweet and develops to a menthol cough drop style, showing also a peated backdrop amongst tar and chimney soot.
Finish: The finish is spiced, ashy and coal dusted.
